Are your remote users truly mobile?

Over the last 10 or so years, it has become the norm to be able to pick your Email up remotely using your Blackberry or iPhone. More recently, these devices have been able to synchronise with Outlook providing access to your desktop calendar and contacts. If you were 'out of the office', you'd simply divert your extension to your mobile or a voicemail message; a message that you could periodically dial in via your direct line and listen to. But is that being truly mobile?

With recent developments in technology, mobility has become a hot topic of conversation. People want to work smarter, faster and be truly contactable.

NEC have embraced this technology and with the release of their two newest switches; the SV8100 and the SL1100, they are able to provide you the customer, with a truly mobile workforce. There are two features that I'd like to talk about. The first is 'mobile extensions' and the 2nd is what we call 'unified messaging'. The later is nothing new, but instead of having to add it as an expensive application, all we need to do now, is program the telephone system - it's a completely free feature!

Mobile Extensions is a feature developed by NEC that 'twins' your mobile device with your internal extension. In other words, when your extension rings (whether it's an internal or external call) so does your mobile phone. Therefore, you could be anywhere in the World and still receive calls to your direct line or extension. Obviously if you answer the call via your mobile device, there is a charge associated to the call, but this can easily be overcome by installing a GSM gateway which will create a 'mobile to mobile' call and can even be included within your inclusive minute deal. All the telephone system needs is a SIM card from your mobile group. It couldn't be easier! And what's more, you can even transfer calls back to the operator if the call needs to be directed to a colleague. It's totally seamless and gives you more flexibility than ever before.

The 2nd feature, Unified Messaging, allows you to receive internal voiecmail on your smartphone device whilst out of the office. The voicemail is integrated within the telephone system and as a message is delivered, it is also translated into a WAV file and delivered to your Email address. Using your smartphone, you can listen to the message and deal with it accordingly. And as it's an Email, you can keep it, save it,  forward it on to a colleague or simply delete it.  Furthermore, a copy of the message will also be kept on your handset within the office.

Therefore, our client's really are truly mobile.
